Woah, November is in full swing! When did this happen? Anyone else noticing their schedules are already filling with plenty of holiday “stuff”? Family festivities, “Friendsgiving” celebrations and office get togethers? I love this time of year, but it’s certainly social – which means I’d like to look your best.
In the Fall and Winter, you may notice you hair feels more weak, dry, and generally more difficult to style. This is due to the change in temperatures and the fact that there is less moisture in the air during these months. Combine the wintery elements with flat hat hair and you could easily feel discouraged and want to learn how to perfect a pony tail.
To care for your color, hair strength, and look holiday ready, I’m sharing the five ways I’m switching up my routine this fall, to preserve the health of my hair!

Caring for My New Winter Color
In the fall and winter months, many of us ditch our soft highlights for a darker, more sultry color. I love coloring my hair a rich chocolate brown once the weather gets chilly, but I don’t want it to dull after only a few washes. Dry, weak strands of hair can not properly hold color. A moisturizing shampoo and conditioner is key, and I use Pureology products because not only are they vegan, they’re color safe as well. I love the Hydrate Sheer Shampoo and Conditioner. They leave my hair well hydrated but not heavy.
Colder Temps? Turn DOWN The Heat
Hot styling tools combined with the harsh air becomes a lot for our strands to handle. Let your natural wave (or in my case, pin straight) hair do its’ thing this season. By avoiding the curling iron and blow dryer, you’re able to preserve the moisture in your hair and protect it.
If the thought of air-drying freaks you out, try my latest styling obsession. Pureology’s Air Dry Cream makes wash and go…actually work. I love the ease of it, and this product has simplified my hair care routine so much. It saves me time, while giving my hair a well deserved break from the heat.
HYDRATE (Your Body and Hair)
You guys know I love Pureology’s Hydrate Sheer shampoos, and the Hydrate Hair Mask , but how about just… HYDRATING?
As soon as the temperature drops so does my thirst. I have to be more mindful of how much water I’m drinking in the fall and winter because I never feel as thirsty.
Be sure to always drink at least your body’s weight in ounces per day, but shoot for even more if you’re active! Staying well hydrated truly makes a world of difference in the tone of your skin and strength of your hair. Consider it the easiest (and cheapest) beauty trick, ever.
You guys might have seen my latest recipes inspired by Pureology’s Hydrate and Strength Cure Superfood Hair Masks.
The masks have become a part of my weekly routine, and I’ve noticed my hair is softer, stronger, and more manageable. I used to experience horrible split ends in the winter, but since prioritizing deep conditioning and using the masks, and keeping up with regular trims, my hair is healthier even in the dry cold air! I like to rotate between the Strength Cure Mask with goji berry and olive oil and the Hydrate Mask with avocado and coconut oils.
Eat a well balanced diet with hair superfoods
Products can work wonders, but beauty truly comes from within. What we eat literally rebuilds the cells of our skin, hair and nails, and internal organs. So let’s up the beauty foods, shall we? Protein, healthy fats, antioxidants and vitamins like vitamin C and A are all crucial in preserving a summer glow through the fall, and keeping hair strong and healthy.
Here are some of my favorite superfoods that have beauty benefits:
- Chia and Flax Seeds
- Nuts (almonds, and walnuts)
- Berries (goji, blueberry, golden berries)
- Spinach and leafy greens
- Seaweed – Nori, like the seaweed found in miso soup!
There you have it. Five simple tricks that actually save you time (no blow dryer needed) AND put your hair’s’ health first.
