Chocolate Avocado Mousse and Hydrate Superfood Masks

I’ve really stepped up my hair care game…

My hair has been on point these days thanks to the release of Pureology’s new hair masks.

I’m excited to be partnering with Pureology this fall to bring you recipes inspired by their newest hair masks. Last month, I featured a Goji Lime Smoothie, and you can check that out here!  Next up is a wintery dessert using chocolate, peppermint and avocado to make a creamy chocolate mint mousse!

What’s so super about avocados?

Avocados are what I like to call nature’s butter. They’re a great replacement for butter on toast, and lend a creamy texture to salads, dips, etc. I mean does anyone NOT like guacamole? I didn’t think so…

From a nutritional standpoint, avocado is great because it provides your body the following:

  • Heart-healthy monounsaturated fats
  • Tons of fiber
  • More potassium than a banana
  • Lowers cholesterol levels
  • Great source of plant based protein

As for the Hydrate Mask? It’s SO hydrating. Like, intense hydration which is ideal now that the weather is so cold! You may not realize, but the dry and cold air this time of year can do some damage to your hair and skin.

As part of the Pureology Hydrate line, it is formulated with all vegan ingredients to deeply moisturize, soften and manage unruly hair. It also smells ah-mazing and doesn’t contain any silicone, sulfates or parabens. All things I look for when choosing products for my hair and skin.  

How does avocado help you hair??

Because of the high levels of vitamins A, D, E and B avocado is deeply moisturizing. Avocado is also high in proteins, amino acids, magnesium, folic acid, copper and iron and can help with the damaged caused by excessive heat styling and even exposure to sun and chilly fall wind!

The monounsaturated fatty acid content in avocado oil is even higher than extra virgin olive oil— making it incredible for your hair, and these fatty acids, high levels of antioxidants and vitamin E are easily absorbed into our scalp and hair shafts.

How / How often should you use the mask?

Simple. After shampooing, apply the mask from root to tip and let sit for 5 minutes. Rinse! Your hair is going to feel silky and smooth and completely hydrated. As far as frequency, I typically use the mask 1-2x per week and rotate it with my Strength Cure Goji Berry Mask. Since it has been colder, my hair is needing the extra deep conditioning! You can use the mask more often if you have extra dry hair.

Ready for the recipe? Wondering how I’m going to turn avocado into dessert?

Besides guacamole, there’s nothing I love more than chocolate and believe it or not, you can combine the two.

Chocolate Peppermint Avocado Mousse

  • Prep Time: 10h


  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/4 cup vegan sweetener, agave or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract OR vanilla extract if you prefer!
  • pinch sea salt
  • fresh mint to garnish, optional


  1. Add all ingredients to a food processor. Process until smooth and evenly mixed, occasionally scraping sides of food processor. Serve immediately and top with nuts, coconut flakes or fresh berries. If there are have leftovers, store in the freezer. Allow to thaw before eating or eat frozen like ice cream!
