today is #TOASTTUEDAY! and the ‘gram is celebrating. if anyone follows my insta feed, they see a lot of toast.
isn’t it crazy how this toasting tradition has become a literal…phenomenon. foodies are drooling over delicious toast combos, so I figured I would discuss my favorite ways to celebrate this weekly holiday.
all drooling aside, this food craze is a perfect snack, breakfast or lunch. it combines all of the best things for health and energy such as whole grains, healthy fats, veggies/fruits… so hop on the toast train, I say.
when toasting, I prefer sprouted whole grain breads or gluten free options. check the freezer section of your grocery store!
here are 5 ways to top toast….
avocado toast is EVERYWHERE. including trendy brunch spots in cities like my own Philly. but there’s no excuse not to make it at home, it’s easy and delicious! here are three photos to give you an idea of my avo toast obsession….
try edamame, strawberries,sprouts, radish, chia seed, hemp seeds, balsamic… the list is never ending.
i love hummus. love as in, never get tired, always in my fridge, use it on everything kind of love. toast is no exception. this savory flavor is a great lunch idea. top it will all the fresh veggies you can find and some olives, balsamic, or basil for a fresh Mediterranean flavor.
whether black bean dip/spread or refried beans, it’s a southwest flavor you’ll enjoy. I like a little bit of red pepper flakes, mango, cilantro + avocado paired with the beans. plus, it’s another filling lunch option as it has plenty of fiber and plant based protein.
the peanut butter base.
total breakfast toast. i start with peanut butter, then get creative. add fruit like persimmon, apple, or of course banana. sweeten with agave, date caramel, chia seed jam, etc. don’t forget the cinnamon.
dairy free cream cheese toast.
my personal favorite for breakfast. maybe because i am thrilled that vegan cream cheese rivals the original. i love to add radishes, sprouts and scallions as seen below. but also have loved cream cheese toast with a drizzle of agave, some blueberries and cinnamon.
now preheat those toasters? oh wait, they’re ready…
