#WhatIAteToday // Veestro Vegan Delivery

happy hump day! by Wednesday, remnants of my weekend recipe experiments are long gone, and I need to make something. problem? I don’t always want to…

we have all been there. and if you have eliminated gluten, dairy or meat (or all!), you’re probably familiar with the frozen food section because there are a handful of tasty options for when you’re in a pinch.

I’m thankful for such options, but who really knows what goes into those seemingly healthy options?? today I want to fill you in on another fantastic choice, Veestro, which is delivered to your door. I partnered with Veestro to review a full day of meals and to fill you in on their vegan delivery service!

what’s veestro??

if you check out my instagram today- you’ll see I’m leading followers through #WhatIAteToday, including all FOUR of the dishes I tried from Veestro.

Veestro is a completely plant based home delivery service. they offer many gluten free options, and mostly organic, non-gmo ingredients.

I could pronounce EVERY ingredient in everything I ate. no preservatives, just real food that doesn’t take long to prepare.

and it’s DELIVERED. yup, Veestro delivers to your door, anywhere in the continental US.

the day started with a breakfast burrito. this beats my daily green smoothie or oatmeal routine. breakfast burritos are definitely not my day to day breakfast meal, but one I’ve always loved!

it was filled with a tofu scramble including organic veggies and blackbeans. packed with 19 grams of protein and 13 grams of fiber this baby is going to fill you up and keep you full until lunch.

the burrito initially was a bit dry- and not spicy enough for me. but the red hot sauce was DELICIOUS. I poured it on the burrito, the organic potatoes, and dipped in the sauce throughout the meal. that made it more spicy and flavorful.

only downside, not one of Veestro’s gluten free options, but fantastic if gluten isn’t a concern.

just be sure to leave enough time in the morning to cook in the oven rather than microwave. it’s much much better.

here’s the info on the breakfast burrito from Veestro’s site.

veestro kale salad

i was pretty happy to find a kale salad when the food arrived from Veestro. I was even happier to find it had tempeh, quinoa, and a tahini dressing. the cranberries added something sweet, and I added a few more from my pantry.

because the salad arrives frozen, pop it in the fridge to thaw. however, the organic kale ended up tasting more steamed than like a crisp salad. I still enjoyed it, just wasn’t what I expected.

the dressing though? yum!

by far the dish I was most skeptical about. and actually ended up really enjoying.

dinner was a f’sh filet with cous cous and kale.

I read through the reviews of this meal and found I wasn’t the only one pleasantly surprised!

my personal preference? more whole food and less soy alternatives. but, this was a great dish because it’s nothing like my typical menu I create for myself. if you’re in a rut or want to try something different, take a shot at this entree!

the kale and cous cous were flavorful as well and the balsamic glaze was delicious to drizzle on everything.

dessert.veestro cheesecakea

last, but certainly NOT least, the raspberry cheez-cake. despite being sans dairy, gmos, preservatives, and gluten, you wouldn’t guess it.

I’ve had a lot of sub par vegan cheesecakes- some of my own included- and this cheesecake was close to the real deal! I think I prefer the use of silken tofu over nuts for a dairy free cheesecake base.

just be sure to allow it to thaw for a few hours- if serving for dinner just pop it in the fridge in the morning and it will be perfectly chilled in the evening.

the calories, fat and sugar are obviously on the higher side, but it was a very generous portion. easy to share.

plus, hello! it’s dessert. and it’s well worth it.

if you’re still skeptical about tofu in cheesecake, check out other customer reviews of this dessert on Veestro’s site.

the verdict?

could get pricy if it was a regular habit, but you’re paying for not only delivery, but superior quality of ingredients.

for organic, completely plant based and fairly low in calorie? I thought it was great both for taste and convenience.

Wow, I love the salad and the cheesecake! They both look so good! I generally don’t do a lot of food delivery programs because I don’t find I need them, but it’s fun to look at reviews!
